The law requires service and goods providers to remove barriers to ensure that all disabled people can obtain the same level of service as able bodied people. So for example, if a cafe, pub or betting shop has a toilet for customers they should have taken action to ensure that they also have a disabled accessible toilet.
The duty to make reasonable adjustments requires service providers to take positive steps to ensure that disabled people can access services. This goes beyond simply avoiding discrimination. It requires service providers to anticipate the needs of potential disabled customers for reasonable adjustments.
